good bang for the buck
this is a basic gps but gets you where you need to go. Big plus is the 4.3″ screen. good deal

Good product, extremely lousy support
I bought this product last year and while in the US it served me well. It takes a while to lock onto the satellites but once locked, it remains locked and has no problems with reception through a car’s windshield.

The problems started when I went abroad and wanted to purchase a map for my destination country. I paid the $100 to garmin and then no matter what I did, the map simply wouldn’t download. I spent a few hours trying and finally gave up and called customer support and the nightmare began. You wait forever. Then you get someone that tells you it’s a software problem and sends you to another queue where you wait forever again. And then a tech came on, spent about an hour with me taking over my computer and finally came to the conclusion it was their problem – a server error. Fine, it happens. I tried again the next day. And the next. And the next week. And then called customer support and waited. And they took over my computer. And again it was a server error. So I tried again the week after. Finally I gave up and asked for a refund. No problems – they promised a refund within 7-10 days. That was a month ago. Now they admitted they didn’t submit a refund but instead put a new download link in my account – which they actually did not. So today they promised another refund, within 7-10 days. I disputed the charge and I’m never buying anything from Garmin again. EVER.

Doesn’t come with a manual, Garmin sent a copied manual
I don’t often write reviews but must say this Garmin nuvi 205W is a huge disappointment. First, it doesn’t come with a manual. I returned one unit only to receive another without a manual. Garmin sent me some cheap copy machine copy of the manual- very poor. The manual makes reference to plugging your computer into the mini-USB cable to update it’s software. Trouble is the cable has a auto accessory power plug on one end and my computer doesn’t have a port for that. Go figure. The menu on the 205w is lame. Not a good designed menu. Too much using the back button. Also, it hasn’t found 1/2 the addresses I’ve entered. The addresses all show up on Mapquest. I have a built in GPS in my Honda and appreciate it more after using this poorly package and finished unit.

Nice Navigator – Fun to Use
Bought this navigator and having so much fun using it – have the voice on British English for fun – easy to use – easy to read – wish it was a tad bigger – other than that great for the price – no complaints.

I purchased this item for a recent trip that I had to Austin Texas. I purchased it a week before my trip to test it out in my area of Southern California. I had good reviews from friends and read these reviews on this product on here. Which helped me purchase this item with confidence. Testing it locally, I noticed it does not recognize shortcuts or avoid freeways. I would test this unit going to work and back and weekend driving. This unit would have me going around in circles when the store was right in front of me and I could turn left or park to the right.

When I took it to Austin, TX. I was confident I was going to be able to plot the address of our hotel and not get lost. Damn unit kept on getting us lost and going in circles. I finally had to stop by and access a wifi spot and fire up my mac book pro and plot the address using GOOGLE MAPS. I was way better off using a paper map or print out using my laptop. Than using this item. This had really soured me on GPS Units. I may get a Magellan or TomTom in the far future but just returned it for a full refund.

Only advice, when traveling to other states make sure to stop by AAA if your a member and get maps and sometimes the local car rental places will give you a local map for free or at a price. Those items are still cheaper and reliable than this. Keeping in mind you know how to read maps. WHich I can.
